November PUG-New Business Essentials

November 20, 2010 by

Hello,

I am having a difficult time nailing down an accountant or CPA who is willing to come and speak to our group. If  anyone knows of someone who is interested please let me know.  Last month we had to re-schedule the meeting at the last minute due to scheduling conflicts with the speaker.    For now, though this is what I have lined up for November.  Jared Van Orden from the Weber State Small Business Development Center will be coming to discuss things such as how to obtain a business license, business marketing and other such small business necessities.  He will not be speaking about taxes as he is not a position to do so.  I hope you will come and bring a friend!  Please send me an email so I know who will be attending!   andrea@andreahanksphotography.com

The meeting will be held at The Sonora Grill in Ogden, Utah on Tuesday November 30th at 7 p.m. The address is:  2310 S. Kiesel Ave. Ogden, UT 84401 and the phone number is: 801.393.1999.

Pictage WILL be providing chips, salsa and soft drinks from The Sonora Grill.  Do NOT feel obligated to purchase food….but the menu ROCKS if you are a bit hungry!

Finally, as a reminder you do NOT need to be a Pictage Member to join in and the meetings are always free!

The meeting will be held at The Sonora Grill in Ogden, Utah on October 27th at 6 p.m. The address is:  2310 S. Kiesel Ave. Ogden, UT 84401 and the phone number is: 801.393.1999.

August PUG Meeting! Lenses 101

August 11, 2010 by

Hello everyone!

I am so excited to be collaborating with Adilfa and the rest of the Utah Pictage Group as well as having a great time at our PUG meetings!  I am very open to suggestions and I would love to hear from you.  Don’t hesitate to call or email me with questions or ideas for our PUGS!

For our August PUG, we will be meeting at Pictureline (305 West 700 South in SLC) on Wednesday, August 25th from 4:00-5:00 p.m.  Leslie Nielsen is going to be teaching a class all about lenses.

Lens Class Outline:

The only thing between your subject and your sensor is your lens, it affects the “look” of your picture more than any other accessory.  In this class we will unravel the mystery of camera lenses so you will be able to select and use them more effectively.
We will specifically discuss:
The language of lenses – What do all the numbers mean.
Lens selection – which lens to use for the look you want.
Primes vs Zooms – building a lens kit.
This class is limited to 25 people, so please RSVP!
Cheers,
Andrea

April PUG Free Graphic Design Seminar

April 21, 2010 by

Date: April 26 and 27

Time: 10:00 – 11:30am

Place: Salt Lake Airport Hilton
5151 Wiley Post Way
Salt Lake City, UT 84116

FREE Photoshop Graphic Design Seminar

Instead of a PUG meeting this month I have arranged with IPPA and Graphic Authority for a free Photoshop Design Seminar on Monday and Tuesday from 10:00 to 11:30am.  Stay for the free tradeshow and mini classes and get some major free education.

Spend an hour or so each day with Jaron Horrocks and you’ll have a much better idea of how to market your own unique brand image and then how to execute that vision using the latest design tools.
You’ll leave this class with a greater understanding of Photoshop, and how to more quickly and easily utilize it to design anything from books to cards to photographic artwork.
During the class we’ll have a “hands-on” workroom to design a marketing card, and each attendee will receive a sample template to work with. So bring your laptop, load up a sample design template, and customize your new marketing card for this year. Material covered in the class will include a brief explanation of layers, clipping & layer masks, custom brushes & shapes, and basic functions of coloring and resizing with Photoshop.

Jaron is the lead designer for Graphic Authority, and their training representative at seminars as well as online webinar training. He attended Southern Virgina University, majoring in Multimedia design. He loves photography, design and especially teaching both!

Class size is limited so please RSVP for a reserved seat.  E-mail adilfa@donpolo.com Try to be there at least 15 minutes early so we don’t give your seat away.

Next PUG meeting plan on May 24 if my daughter doesn’t have her baby that day.

February PUG at Don Polo

February 17, 2010 by

Our February PUG will be on Wednesday Feb. 24th.  Zions bank has been gracious enough to lend us their Redwood Rd. office at 1635 S. Redwood Rd.  Our topic this month will be on the business of photography.

How many of us actually have a business plan and why do you need one?  What is your ROI and how do you find out?  Are you a sole proprietor or an S Corp. and what are the advantages/disadvantage of each?  These are all questions that your bank will ask you if you ever need to ask for a business loan.

I have invited a representative from Zions Bank to answer some of these questions and talk about special government loans and incentives for businesses, SBA loans, setting up business accounts, credit card processing and more.  If you have business advice or questions or want to learn how to make your business work better for you then be here Wednesday night for a very informative and valuable discussion on business as well as personal finance.

Place:  Zions Bank

Time: 7:00 pm
